Joel (Lead Pastor)

Our Lead Pastor was born in Angola where he lived until he was 14. Because of the civil war in the country, his family then migrated to South Africa where he completed High School and then began studying Accountancy.

However, since his early teens, he knew that God had placed a call on his life for full-time ministry. One could even say that he was destined to be a Baptist as at the age of four he was already baptising his teddy bears.

In his mid-twenties he left secular employment and began his theological training in Cape Town. After having led a church in Cape Town for 10 years he responded to a church call to come to the UK and has been here ever since.

He is married to Jill and they have two children. Joel is very partial towards rugby and he even supports England. However, it doesn’t take much for his loyalties to revert back to the South African Springboks!

He is passionate about the Church of Jesus; one of his favourite verses is found in Matthew 16: 18 where Jesus says: “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it”.
